Wrestling Building | Niles Community Schools

Niles, Michigan

The NCS Wrestling Room project is a prime example of CARMI’s passion for adaptive reuse—one of our favorite and most rewarding design challenges. Tasked by Niles Community Schools to support the expansion of their wrestling program, we transformed a modest 3,000-square-foot facility—formerly used as an art classroom and auto shop—into a dedicated training space. Located just north of the high school near the tennis courts, the building’s strategic placement allowed us to add a new restroom to support both indoor wrestling and outdoor athletic functions. Working within the district’s modest budget, we minimized interior finishes by exposing the roof structure and installing durable athletic wall pads with metal liner panels above. A new HVAC system was also integrated to ensure comfort and manage the high humidity levels typical of a wrestling environment.
